Zinc Oxide Strapping 6″
Zinc Oxide Strapping (6 inch) is an extra-wide rigid adhesive tape used for major immobilization and securement. This 6-inch width is typically utilized for large area applications, such as securing traction to the legs (skin traction) or strapping the chest/ribs (though less common now). It offers the same strong, non-stretch support as the narrower versions but covers a much larger surface area, distributing tension more evenly. It is porous, breathable, and provides a very secure hold.
The 6-inch Zinc Oxide Tape is the widest standard strapping available, designed for specialized orthopedic and surgical applications.
Product Details:
– Width: 6 inches (approx. 15cm).
– Material: High-quality cotton/viscose fabric with a Zinc Oxide adhesive mass.
– Properties: Rigid (non-elastic), porous, breathable.
Primary Uses:
– Skin Traction: Essential for making traction kits for femur fractures. The wide surface area spreads the traction force over a larger area of skin, reducing the risk of blistering or skin shear.
– Support: Large joint immobilization.
– Fixation: Securing large medical devices or splints to the body.
Application Tips:
When using for traction, it is often applied with tincture of benzoin to increase adhesion. Care must be taken during removal to prevent skin stripping; adhesive remover wipes are recommended. Do not apply completely circumferentially around a limb without padding, as the non-stretch nature could act as a tourniquet if the limb swells.
