Silk Suture 2 RBN Dozen

Silk Suture Size 2 RBN is a non-absorbable, natural braided suture made from silk fibers. Size 2 is a very heavy, strong gauge. The Round Body Needle (RBN) indicates it is used for securing drains or ligating large vessels/pedicles internally, rather than skin. Silk is known for its excellent handling and knotting properties. Since it is non-absorbable, it provides permanent tensile strength (though it degrades slowly over years). Box of 12.

Description

Surgical Silk (Black Braided) Size 2 is a heavy-duty non-absorbable suture.

Characteristics:
– Material: Natural silk filaments, braided and wax/silicone coated.
– Size: USP 2 (Heavy).
– Needle: Round Body. Designed for ligation and fixation, not cutting.
– Reaction: Silk causes a moderate inflammatory reaction which helps fibrosis (scarring) to secure the knot/tissue.

Uses:
– Securing Chest Tubes and drains (The heavy silk is tied around the tube and stitched to skin; RBN is safer than cutting needles to avoid cutting the tube).
– Ligating large vascular pedicles during organ removal.
– Orthopedic fixation.

Silk is valued for its “feel” and knot security. It does not snap easily.
