Paraffin gauze

Paraffin Gauze Dressing (often known by brand names like Jelonet) is a primary wound contact layer designed to facilitate moist wound healing without adherence.

Composition:
– Base: Wide-mesh (leno-weave) cotton gauze. This open weave allows the free drainage of wound exudate into an absorbent secondary dressing (like a gauze pad) placed on top.
– Impregnant: Saturated with white or yellow soft paraffin jelly.

Indications:
– Minor burns and scalds.
– Skin graft donor and recipient sites.
– Leg ulcers.
– Lacerations and abrasions.

Benefits:
– Non-Adherent: It does not dry out or stick to the wound, ensuring that delicate new epithelial cells are not stripped away during removal.
– Soothing: Provides immediate relief to painful, exposed nerve endings.
– Sterile: Packaged in individual peel-packs or tins to maintain sterility.

Usage:
Clean the wound, apply the paraffin gauze directly over the injury, and cover with an absorbent pad and bandage. Can be cut to size without fraying. Change frequency depends on the wound condition, but it can often be left in place for several days to minimize disturbance.
