Ortho padding -6 Inches

Ortho Padding 6 inch (often called Softban) is a soft, cotton or synthetic bandage used as a protective underlayer beneath plaster of paris or fiberglass casts. The 6-inch width is suitable for adult legs and larger limbs. It cushions the limb, protecting the skin from the hard, rough cast material and allowing for swelling without constriction. It tears easily and conforms to body contours.

Description

Orthopedic Padding (6 inch) is the first layer applied in the casting process. Its primary function is skin protection and comfort.

Characteristics:
– Material: Soft, non-absorbent synthetic fibers (polyester) or cotton blends. It allows moisture to evaporate, reducing skin maceration under the cast.
– Width: 6 inches (approx. 15cm).
– Texture: ‘Feathered’ edges and easy-tear properties allow for smooth application without ridges or lumps that could cause pressure sores.
– Autoclavable: Some versions can be sterilized.

Application:
Wrap spirally around the limb with 50% overlap. Apply extra layers over bony prominences (ankles, knees). It creates a safety buffer for the oscillating saw during cast removal.
