IV cannulas G26
The IV Cannula G26 is an ultra-fine catheter, color-coded Violet (or Purple). It is the smallest standard bore available for peripheral venous access, used almost exclusively in the care of premature babies and low-birth-weight neonates. Designed for veins that are barely visible to the naked eye, it provides a vital lifeline for delivering essential nutrients (TPN) and medication. The flow rate is very low, intended for precise, syringe-driven, or volumetric pump infusions where volume control is critical.
The G26 Cannula represents the highest level of precision in vascular access manufacturing. It is designed to navigate thread-like veins in premature infants without causing rupture. Because the internal diameter is so small, resistance to flow is high; therefore, fluids are typically administered via an infusion pump to ensure accurate delivery. The catheter material is extremely soft to prevent kinking while the baby moves.
Key Components:
-
Needle: Ultra-sharp, fine-point stainless steel needle.
-
Form Factor: Miniature wings and hub design to reduce weight and bulk on the limb of a premature infant.
-
Safety: Radiopaque strips allow for X-ray visualization to detect the tip position or catheter migration.
Clinical Indications:
-
Premature infants (Preemies).
-
Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) in neonates.
-
Continuous medication drips in the NICU.
Key Product Specifications:
-
Gauge: 26G
-
Color Code: Violet / Purple
-
Flow Rate: Approx. 13-15 ml/min
-
Catheter Length: Typically 19mm (¾ inch)
