Chest Tube Size 16 is a sterile, flexible catheter inserted through the chest wall into the pleural space. This size (16 Fr) is relatively small and is typically used for draining air (pneumothorax) or thin fluids in adults, or for general use in children. Made from clear PVC or silicone, it features radio-opaque markers for placement verification and side eyes at the distal end for effective drainage. It connects to the underwater seal drainage bottle.

Description

The Size 16 Thoracic Catheter (Chest Tube) is designed for the management of pleural pathologies.

Features:
– Size: 16 Fr. Small bore.
– Material: Thermosensitive PVC or Silicone.
– Markings: Depth markings allow the physician to judge insertion depth; a radio-opaque strip runs the length for X-ray visualization.
– Tip: Open distal tip with smooth side eyes to prevent tissue occlusion and maximize drainage.

Indications:
– Pneumothorax (Air in chest).
– Pleural effusion (Fluid in chest).
– Post-operative chest drainage.

Because 16 Fr is a smaller bore, it is excellent for air evacuation but may clog if used for thick blood or pus (empyema). Insertion is performed via surgical incision or using a trocar technique (if supplied). Secure with sutures and tape. Single-use, sterile.
