Povidone Iodine 5 litres

Povidone Iodine (5 Litres) is a broad-spectrum antiseptic solution used for the prevention and treatment of infection in wounds. It is the gold standard for pre-operative skin preparation, effectively killing bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa. Unlike tincture of iodine, Povidone Iodine is less irritating to the skin and does not stain as permanently, although it leaves a temporary golden-brown film indicating the covered area. This 5-litre supply is intended for operating theatres and emergency rooms where large volumes of antiseptic are required for scrubbing and patient preparation before surgery.

Description

Our 5-Litre Povidone Iodine Solution is a water-soluble iodophor complex that slowly releases iodine to provide sustained antimicrobial activity. It is critical for maintaining a sterile field during surgical interventions.

Clinical Applications:
– Surgical Scrub: Used by the surgical team for hand and arm disinfection.
– Patient Prep: Applied to the incision site prior to surgery to reduce skin flora.
– Wound Care: Management of burns, lacerations, and abrasions to prevent infection.
– Mucous Membranes: Safe for use in gynecological and oral hygiene procedures (at appropriate dilutions).

Mechanism of Action: The free iodine penetrates the cell wall of microorganisms and oxidizes essential proteins and nucleotides, resulting in rapid cell death. It is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, spores, and viruses.

Contraindications & Safety:
– Avoid use on patients with known iodine sensitivity or thyroid disorders (e.g., Hashimoto’s thyroiditis).
– Not recommended for use on neonates or for prolonged periods on pregnant/lactating women.
– Store at room temperature. The 5-litre bulk pack is cost-effective for high-volume hospitals and enables efficient refilling of theatre scrub stations.
